There Is a Tree

Entre las cantantes norteamericanas que han destacado en los últimos años ocupa un lugar de privilegio Carrie Newcomer. Cantante y compositora que ha permanecido en primer plano en el mundo del folk desde el año 1990 en que empezó su actividad en solitario.

 Carrie Newcomer

Carrie nació el 25 de Mayo de 1958 in Dowagiac, Michigan. En esa fecha celebro yo tambien mi cumpleaños, y el año 1958, asi como el 1946, el mio, pertenecen en la astrología china al signo del perro, luego algo debemos tener en común. Despues de graduarse en artes visuales y crear trabajo en varios medios desarrolló su pasión por la música, y en los años 80 participó en varios grupos de folk.

Las canciones de Carrie transmiten profunda intimidad emocional, explorando lo personal, lo político y lo espiritual con ingenio, comprensión y compasión.

Su primer album en solitario fue Visions and Dreams en el año 1991, después An Angel at My Shoulder, fue publicado por Philo Record en 1994, y al año siguiente salió el album The Bird or the Wing. Despues entre 1994 y 2010 Carrie Newcomer ha publicado 12 albumes más incluyendo el directo de 1999 Bare To The Bone, y ha dos antologías de sus mejores canciones, Betty's Diner en el año 2004 y  Kindred Spirits: A Collection en el año 2012.

Aparte de su carrera musical, Carrie es cuáquera practicante y ha dedicado parte de su tiempo a actividades caritativas  y sociales. En los años 2009 y 2011 viajó a la India como embajadora cultural, participando en eventos musicales organizados por el Departamanto de Estado de Estados Unidos, y en el año 2012 hizó un viaje similar a Kenya en representación de la Interfaith Hunger Initiative. Todas estas actividades han influido de forma significativa en su música.
